Dixie Rose was born in 2021 out of High Endeavors’ Molly Grace and Lord Archibold Whitey. She is a commanding 25 inches tall and a robust 75 pounds. Her favorite sport is scent work, but she is also a very athletic retriever. Dixie is intelligent, sensitive, and the most gentle dog.

Dixie Rose’s size, feathers, and waves reflect the original Scottish bloodline. The golden retriever breed was established in 1868. Baron Tweedmouth of Edington crossed Nous, a Wavy-coated Retriever, to Belle, a yellow-coated Tweed Water Spaniel, which yielded a litter of three yellow wavy-coated puppies called Crocus, Cowslip, and Primrose. Dixie Rose is a direct descendent of Cowslip. Dixie Rose’s name represents her southern birthplace and honors her great-grandmother, who was named after a Scottish wildflower.

Dixie Rose is our beloved family pet, raised in our busy home with four sons and two cats. She would love nothing more than to be a vigorous field/hunting dog, always showing a high drive toward waterfowl and game. Although we are not a family of hunters, her instincts are undeniable.

We are deeply committed to responsible and ethical dog breeding for all dogs, including family pets. We prioritize the health and well-being of our animals above all else, and extensive health testing is one way to increase the odds that our family pet will live a long and healthy life. As dedicated pet owners, we invest substantial time and expense in our dogs’ physical and mental wellness, nutrition, health, medical care, and safety.

Breed Standard: Dixie Rose’s Shortcomings

All responsible breeders measure their dog against the breed standard and identify the bitch’s shortcomings before pairing with a stud. This is because the keystone of responsible breeding is to improve the breed. The breed standard determines how closely the dog adheres to a golden retriever’s “perfect” definition and specification. A breeder should always choose a stud that balances and offsets the dog’s shortcomings.

The breed standard is determined by the AKC.

  • Dixie Rose is approximately 1.5 inches taller than the standard. According to AKC, the standard does not allow for “deviation in height of more than one inch from standard either way.” Our chosen stud will be on the smaller side of the standard to help keep in line with the expected size of a golden retriever.
  • Dixie Rose has the PNPLA1 gene mutation. Ichthyosis (ICH) is a cosmetic skin condition that makes the skin look dark and/or scaly. It does not cause the dog any discomfort or itching. It does not require special vet care, special skin medication, or lotion. It does not impact the dog’s health, wellness, or lifespan. We require studs to have DNA genetic testing to verify that they are “ICH clear” so no mutation can be passed to offspring.
